Red Light w/ Rob

It all began at a red light.

There I was, stopped on Clements Ferry Road, looking at the construction crew in hard hats and Carhartts. I daydreamed about swinging by Dunkin’ to grab coffee and donuts—arming them with caffeine and sugar to power through the heat. What a nice thing to do, I thought.

I’d be a hero. All I have to do is turn left.

As I felt the energy of the red light beginning to shift,  I started to get pragmatic, and many questions started to pop up: How many donuts would I need to get? Do I do munchkins instead? Do I have five minutes to spare? I played back my last few visits in my head– do I have twenty five minutes to spare?

The light turned green, and we inched forward together.

I checked the crew one more time. My left blinker flicked on as I edged toward that turn... but I bailed and kept going straight with the herd.

I smiled though—next time, I promised myself.

Another red light snapped me out of reverie.

“What if there was something that truly connected our little corner of Charleston?” I thought: people and businesses, events we always hear about too late, those familiar faces whose stories go untold, nonprofit efforts we’d all love to rally behind—if only we knew they existed. With all the growth that is happening, there is no better time to start getting connected than the present.

And that moment, right there at that second red light, marked the spark of Clements Ferry Connection.

Okay, I admit there were more than a few spreadsheets involved. And coffee. Lots of coffee.

But the core idea was simple:

  • Bring our community closer. Connecting people to businesses,  business to people, and people to people.

  • Spotlight local stories that matter.

  • Keep it fun, useful, and—above all—a reminder to occasionally turn left and give back to this place we call home.

Welcome to the very first edition of the CFC newsletter. Thanks for joining me—you can wander off anytime, but it would be a lot cooler if you stayed. Enjoy the ride (and maybe the next red light).

Till next time,
